As children move further into trauma content in the TraumaPlay℠ model, it is essential that they gain a healthy understanding of emotions so that healthy emotional verbalization and expression can occur throughout treatment. This hour will be spent looking at play therapy assessments for emotional literacy and play therapy interventions for increasing a client's capacity for verbalizing emotions and connecting them to real life situations.

  1. Describe a play therapy metaphor that helps the child understand how trauma can impact emotional literacy and expression
  2. List three play therapy interventions that assess a client's current emotional literacy.
  3. List three play therapy interventions that increase emotional vocabulary, verbalization and affectual congruence.
